Helle Frederiksen 2nd in St. Anthony's 5150 OD triathlon

Helle Frederiksen has finished second in today’s St. Anthony's 5150 Olympic Distance triathlon. With a final time of 1:57:06, she was just 22 seconds slower than Sarah Haskins (USA; 1:56:44). Radka Vodickova (Czech Republic; 1:59:17) completed the podium. Helle has made it an outstanding 2014 already. Two weeks ago, she won the Ironman 70.3 Puerto Rico. She also finished second in the Ironman 70.3 Monterrey and the Miami Lifetime Tri.

Helle came out of the water in a group of four, about 30 seconds behind race leaders Haskins, McLarty and Brandon. She moved up on the bike, entering T2 in third position, one minute behind Kaye and Haskins. In a strong 10k, she moved up a spot but ran out of real estate to catch up to Haskins.

Helle reflected back on a tough day with a strong finish. "This race made me work super hard. It was one of those days where I didn't actually find any flow or a good sensation in the swim and on the bike. However, I felt very good at the start of the run, as if the race had just started for me at that point. I chased very hard and am very pleased to come away with second. I knew that the gap to the lead was closing, I just dug in and gritted it out. In the end, Haskins was too strong though. I'm looking forward to some solid training now after a busy racing period."

Ruedi Wild (Switzerland; 1:46:46) took the men’s title. Brad Kahlefeldt (Australia; 1:47:09) finished second; Hunter Kemper (USA; 1:47:19) came in third.
