Super Sunday! Will Clarke wins IM 70.3 UK – Ronnie Schildknecht 2nd in Challenge Kraichgau – Axel Zeebroek wins La Roche 111 tri

It’s another Super Sunday for the Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team. June 15 brought a win in the Ironman 70.3 UK for Will Clarke, a second place finish for Ronnie Schildknecht in the Challenge Kraichgau and a victory for Axel Zeebroek in the La Roche 111 tri. Six months into the season, the 10 Uplace-BMC athletes have already recorded 10 victories and 16 podium finishes.

Liz Blatchford wins IM Cairns second year in a row

Liz Blatchford has successfully defended her Ironman Cairns title. Liz dominated the rain-drenched race from start to finish, clocking in with a final time of 09:16:58. Melanie Burke (New Zealand; 09:22:53) and Asä Lundström (Sweden; 09:25:56) completed the podium. This is Liz’s fifth Ironman title. The Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team’s 2014 victory tally now stands at eight.

Ronnie Schildknecht 4th in IM 70.3 Switzerland, Bart Aernouts 8th

Ronnie Schildknecht and Bart Aernouts have finished 4th and 8th respectively in the 2014 Ironman 70.3 Switzerland. Boris Stein (Germany; 03:44:42) took the title. Silver and bronze went to Ruedi Wild (03:45:31) and Mike Aigroz (03:46:31) of Switzerland. Ronnie was in the mix for a podium finish the entire race. Bart, on the other hand, fell ill this week, which made for a tough day to race.

Helle Frederiksen 3rd in Austin Lifetime Tri

Helle Frederiksen has taken bronze in the 2014 Austin Lifetime Tri. In an impressive and exciting display of Olympic Distance racing, Helle (2:01:47) finished right behind winner Sarah Haskins (2:00:53) and Alicia Kaye (2:01:31). Helle seems to have a 2014 season ticket to the tri podium, collecting top-three spots in all her races so far. In April, she won the Ironman 70.3 San Juan. She also finished second in the Ironman 70.3 Monterrey, the Miami Lifetime Tri and the St. Anthony's 5150.

Sofie Goos 2nd in IM Brazil

Sofie Goos has finished second in the 2014 Ironman Brazil. Her final time: 09:00:21. Sara Gross of Canada took the women’s title in 08:56:35. Ariane Monticeli (Brazil; 09:02:44) completed the podium. 2014 has gotten to an outstanding start for Sofie Goos, with one Ironman 70.3 win (Texas) and three second place finishes (Ironman 70.3 San Juan, Ironman 70.3 Mallorca and now Ironman Brazil). Sofie was pleased. "If I had known I was that close to a sub-nine hour Ironman, I would have pushed a little harder to shave off those extra seconds. "

Will Clarke 2nd in IM 70.3 Barcelona

Will Clarke has taken silver in the 2014 Ironman 70.3 Barcelona. Will (04:06:03) finished a little more than three minutes behind Sylvain Sudrie (4:02:43). Bruno Pais (04:06:53) completed the podium. Will cartwheeled across the finish line: “It was a good race. I am really happy. I think it is the most consistent race I have ever done."

Romain Guillaume wins IM Lanzarote; Corinne Abraham 3rd

Romain Guillaume has won the 2014 Ironman Lanzarote. It’s his second full Ironman title since the Ironman Mount Tremblant in 2012. Teammate Corinne Abraham finished third in her return to racing after injury. This brings the Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team top-three count for the year to 7 victories and 12 podium finishes. Ronnie Schildknecht had to retire from the race in the bike leg.

Bart Aernouts and Sofie Goos 2nd in IM 70.3 Mallorca, Liz Blatchford 3rd

Three Uplace-BMC athletes competed in the 2014 Ironman 70.3 Mallorca, and all three finished on the podium. Sofie Goos (4:27:58) and Liz Blatchford (4:29:32) came in second and third behind Lisa Hütthaler (4:18:50). Bart Aernouts (03:53:33) took second place in the pro men’s race. While Andi Dreitz (03:51:38) kept his post-bike lead, Bart held off title favorites Andy Raelert in third (03:53:49), Eneko Llanos, Ivan Raña and Jan Van Berkel.

Will Clarke wins Mallorca Triathlon

Will Clarke has won the 2014 Mallorca Triathlon. Will completed the Olympic Distance race in Colonia Sant Jordi in 1:40:50, beating out Sean Donnelly and Graham Leitch for the win. Will was pleased, “It feels good to take my first win of the season. It shows me I can still go fast over the short distance. More importantly, I now have that fast work-out in my legs, which will serve me well in my next races for sure."
